Our colleague Yasser Chaib shares with us this excellent clinical case of posterior mandible reconstruction, performed after completing our Bone Reconstruction Course. We sincerely thank him for his trust and for allowing us to feature his work.
“In honor of two greats! Jose Luis Dominguez Mompell and Juan Lara Chao, thank you for teaching us everything about 2D and 3D reconstructions. A few months after the course, I was able to perform this case. They teach EVERYTHING they know. 100% recommended course. Thanks again for everything! A big hug to both of you!”
Vertical reconstruction using a tunnel approach
This case involved a vertical bone reconstruction in the posterior mandible, carried out through a tunnel approach. This technique is particularly demanding due to the anatomical limitations of the area and the difficulty of accessing the surgical site without raising a conventional flap.
However, the tunnel technique allows for better preservation of the periosteum and enhances graft vascularization. As a result, bone integration improves and healing becomes more predictable.
The approach follows the biological principles of Prof. Fouad Khoury, whose contributions to horizontal and vertical grafting remain a cornerstone in bone regeneration. You can read more about Khoury Technique ir our clinical cases with this protocol.
