This past weekend, we had the opportunity to present a clinical session on bone atrophies in oral surgery at Foramen Dental Education, in the beautiful city of Porto. The session was titled “Atrofias Ósseas: Um desafio para o Cirurgião Oral” and focused on one of the most complex challenges in modern oral surgery: managing severe bone loss to ensure safe and functional implant placement.
Clinical Strategies for Severe Bone Loss
The lecture addressed essential techniques for diagnosing and treating advanced bone atrophies in oral surgery. We reviewed regenerative procedures, such as GBR (guided bone regeneration), block grafts, and the use of biomaterials. These approaches are key when standard implant placement is not possible due to reduced bone volume.
Participants were engaged in detailed case presentations and discussed the advantages and limitations of each method. Special attention was given to the planning phase, highlighting digital tools that support precise diagnosis and surgical execution.
